MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Diagnostic Imaging in Memorial City, Texas

Diagnostic Imaging is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) for our Woodlands, West Houston, and Energy Crossing locations (one APP at each location).

The ideal candidate will have an interest in radiology and will have the Family/Individual across the lifespan specialty. Will accept new grads.

Shift : Monday - Friday | 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is to provide diagnostic and therapeutic patient care under the direct supervision of a physician. The scope is patient management before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic radiological procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Clinical Management and Patient Care

  1. The advanced practice provider will be expected to respond to any event in diagnostic imaging that constitutes an emergency. This can include but not limited to falls, difficulty breathing, allergic reactions, port extravasation, incidental cord compression, seizure, glycemic event, etc. Provider will assess the patient through patient interview and pertinent physical exam, treat if possible, and disposition the patient. Patient satisfaction will be derived from above average interpersonal skills needed to provide thorough patient and family education. In some occasions, it may be necessary to obtain informed, written consent.

  2. The advanced practice provider will be expected to manage post-procedure/post-imaging care for outpatients as needed. Outpatient post-procedure/post-imaging care may include coordinating with primary service for subsequent procedures and repeat imaging as well as providing appropriate expectations and instructions for follow-up. In this role, knowledge of human anatomy and physiology must be appropriate and complete.

  3. The advanced practice provider will be expected to write prescriptions and orders within their licensed scope of practice.

  4. Provider will be responsible for protocoling imaging studies ordered by non-radiology providers throughout the institution to ensure proper imaging is obtained.

  5. Participates and collaborates in clinical research protocols. Research duties including clinical/data collection, management and obtaining informed consent when delegated to do so.

  6. Other duties as assigned.

Practice-Based Learning and knowledge

  1. Holds an integral role in the patient management team. This will include above average telephone and personal communication skills for consultation with patients, physicians, nurses and other medical team members.

  2. The Diagnostic Imaging Advanced Practice Provider also is called to evaluate patients in recovery to identify and manage post procedure problems. The APP is expected to formulate a plan with the DI physician and primary team regarding subsequent management and or procedure(s). Will also be involved in catheter and procedure related issues and/or complications.

  3. Understanding the role of imaging techniques and following guidelines and policy to obtain the best diagnostic imaging studies and images.

Other duties as assigned

PA Required Education : Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.

APRN Required Education : Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

PA Required Certifications :

All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.

Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support

APRN Required Certifications :

All of the following: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS).

MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
