MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - (Med Onc) MDA UTMB Galveston in Galveston, Texas
MD Anderson is seeking an Outpatient Clinical Nurse (Med Onc) for its MDA UTMB Galveston location.
Ideal candidate will have at least two years of RN experience, preferably in an oncology outpatient clinic setting. Prefer candidates with oncology and or med/surg experience.
Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse position is to positively affect patient outcomes by providing, coordinating, and supporting evidence based direct patient care across the continuum of care. The highest quality of patient care and the appropriate use of resources is achieved in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Transformational Leadership : Clinical Nurse must lead others (co-workers, patients, families, significant others) to where they need to be in order to meet the demands of their future care needs.
Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team which includes but not limited to the following patient care activities administration of
Organizes and prioritizes work of the patient care team which include but is not limited to administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents, pump connects /disconnects, administration of antibiotic therapy, administration of IV fluids, rapid response to chemotherapy reactions/ emergencies, IV starts, etc.
Assures continuity of care as patients transition across the continuum through appropriate patient education and coordination of services
Practice autonomously within the scope of professional nursing practice.

Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and other services.
Responsible for coverage for Surgical Oncology and Infusion patients as necessary.
Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights
New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements : Clinical Nurse is responsible for the integration of innovation and research based findings into daily patient care practices.
Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
Participates in /leads evidenced based practice projects
Participates in the redesign of care delivery for unit/center patient population
Empirical Quality Results: Clinical Nurse seeks solutions to problems inherent in our institution rather than creating work arounds.
Ensures integration of safety and quality standards into practice and delivery of team care
Minimizes at risk behavior in self and others
Actively reports using the Good Catch and incident reporting systems
Collaborates with others in quality and performance improvement efforts
Documents care according to established standards

EDUCATION
Required: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
