MD Anderson Cancer Center Accounting Specialist - Materials Management Services in Houston, Texas
The primary purpose of the Accounting Specialist position is to provide accounting support to Materials Management Services regarding general accounting issues. This position impacts the financial bottom line and customer/patient/vendor perception of the Materials Management division and MD Anderson as an institution.
This position will participate in the auditing and recording of accounting documents prepared or processed by MMS Finance Team. This position is a normal office setting; however, it may require some walking to and from various areas of UTMDACC. This position must also comply with all departmental, Q.I., safety, fire, JCAHO guidelines that apply to the Materials Management areas. This position requires heavy telephone communication; therefore, you must have good verbal/written communication skills. You must be highly motivated and self-managed. You must be able to prioritize and organize daily responsibilities. You must be able to operate a computer, calculator and business telephone; and you must be familiar with the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Email. This position is expected to participate in in-house training in- services to gain information regarding new policies and procedures, to assure appropriate response to issues, to acquire or refresh skills or to enhance job performance. This position is also responsible to interact with customers to identify concerns and effect resolutions and demonstrate ability to provide rapid response to problems; and participate on assigned projects and/or committees, as required.
Responsible for maintenance of important vendor account, including, but not limited to, analysis of monthly invoices.
Coordinate activities with Receiving to ensure proper count of received products.
Coordinate activities with Accounts Payable to ensure timely payment of valid invoices.
Review Invoice Not Received (INR) report and Received Not Invoiced (RNI) report to assess action needed to pay and/or clear all valid invoices or purchase orders.
Maintains records and reports in compliance with hospital standards and accrediting agencies.
Interacts with customers to identify concerns and effect resolutions and demonstrate ability to provide rapid response to problems and the ability to utilize concentration skills in stressful situations.
Assist in development of policies and procedures to ensure the proper handling and processing of all receipt transactions
Act as back up to perform quarterly rotation of month end process.
Participate in monthly budget reconciliation.
Participate on assigned projects and/or committees, as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Act as backup to the Senior Accounting Clerks as needed as it relates to Patient Charging.
Act as backup to the Senior Accounting clerks as needed as it relates to Scanning/Linking in Image Now.
Must have strong data entry skills with minimal error percentage.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to multi-task.
Must be flexible while handling functional changes with ease and with little or no advanced notice.
Must be able to work in a busy, fast-paced office environment.
Must be able to meet established deadlines.
Must be a self-motivated person able to work independently with little supervision.
Other duties as assigned. Assist in other departmental areas, as required.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required: Three years experience in accounting related activities.
