MD Anderson Cancer Center Administrative Assistant - Laboratory Medicine Administration in Houston, Texas
*This is a full-time Administrative Assistant with the hours of Monday - Friday 8am-5pm. The ideal candidate will have extensive purchasing experience as well as experience with time keeping and faculty support. *
The Laboratory Medicine department performs diagnostic routine and esoteric testing. The testing results are used for clinical management of our patients. Highly trained and certified technologists perform the tests with state-of-the–art automated analyzers, they perform manual microscopic and analytical procedures necessary to provide accurate test results. Specialized clinical pathologists provide interpretation of test results and consult with medical staff. In addition, Transfusion Medicine and Donor Center supply all the blood and blood components necessary to support the medical and surgical management of our patients. The section of Microbiology works closely with Infection Control staff, to maintain an active infection control program that covers all the hospital areas.
Laboratory Medicine is a multidisciplinary department. It performs over 9.2 million billables annually. Services include high volume chemistry, hematology and coagulation; microbiology and virology; point of care tests; HLA for bone marrow transplant and infectious disease testing for blood products. Over 500,000 phlebotomies are performed annually. In addition the laboratories support research and development of tests, and educational development of employees. The sections also provide laboratory support to other clinical divisions for research protocols. Several members of the departmental staff also maintain their own clinical research programs supported by governmental and/or private grants.
General Administrative Support Duties will involve setting up meetings, maintaining competency files for techs, handling calendars, arranging travel, mail distribution, Kronos, arranging teleconferences and conference calls, and processing reimbursements.
Processing purchase requisitions inclusive of tissue orders, special orders, service contracts, blood products, and lab supplies.
Monitoring and reconciling assigned department operational fund(s) through sampling. Monitoring and reconciliation of faculty development fund(s) to PRS. Tracking and providing backup for all expenses required per policy. Monitoring and tracking of all expenses funded by grants.
Duties include updating CVs, maintaining licenses, and processing journal subscriptions. Additional tasks related to academia and research are assisting with grants, submission of manuscripts, and protocol submissions.
High school diploma or equivalent. Four years of administrative/secretarial experience. With preferred degree, no experience required. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
