MD Anderson Cancer Center Certified Medical Assistant - Endocrine Center in Houston, Texas

MD Anderson's Endocrine Center is one of the nation's few comprehensive programs dedicated entirely to diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant endocrine diseases.

Function:

Acts as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures.

Scope:

Impacts patient care to patients in outpatient clinics under defined supervision.

The ideal candidate will be a Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum 1 year of experience in a Medical Assistant role.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.

Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.

Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care.

Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing.

Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed.

Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies.

Processes all required paperwork.

Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.

EDUCATION

Required:

High school diploma/equivalent or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.

Preferred: Medical Assistant Certification

EXPERIENCE

Required: None

Preferred: A minimum of one year experience in a Medical Assistant role.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
