To oversee the research phlebotomy needs of the SCTCT patients and supervise the Department's Clinical Investigation Technician. Coordinate, oversee, and perform ordered research sample collection, processing, shipment, and accurate documentation. Schedules personnel coverage and coordinates the delegation of work assignments. Reviews and interprets protocol requirements for patient blood and urine samples. Sets up and maintains file of active protocols. Ensures appropriate samples are accurately collected at each stage of each protocol according to patient orders. Tracks blood products and specimens in a database for use by researchers and patient care personnel. Supervises and participates in the collection of blood and urine specimens for patients and insures their delivery to the proper laboratory. Reviews and maintains records of sample collections and shipments to sponsor drug companies. Attends drug protocol start-up meetings with sponsor company representatives and M. D. Anderson clinical personnel to assure that sample collection procedures and forms are fully understood.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required: Three years of phlebotomy experience. Additional education may substitute for up to two years of the required experience on a one to one basis.
