Clinical Nurse Opportunity in our Emergency Center / Clinical Decision "Observation" Unit (11 am - 11 pm)
The Emergency Center (EC) and Clinical Decision "Observation" Unit is comprised of 41 Emergency Department (ED) beds and 23 observation beds. The EC/CDU provides comprehensive emergency medical services 24/7. The EC is uniquely specialized in its ability to address oncologic emergencies, including treatment related adverse effects, disease specific emergencies and exacerbation of comorbidities. The unit see all types of cancers as well as those without a cancer diagnosis in both adults and pediatric populations. The Clinical Decision Unit is an adult outpatient observation unit that provides short-term treatment, frequent assessment and reassessment as an alternative to discharge or inpatient admission. The ideal CDU stay is 2 midnight or less. At the end of the observation period, the disposition of discharge of full admission are determined.
The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing, a TX RN license and at least 12 months experience in an acute care or medical / surgical setting.
The shift is 11 am – 11 pm and 26 out of 52 weekends shifts per year.
Salary Range: $65,000 - $87,500 - $110,000
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Education Required Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Education Preferred Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
Experience Preferred: One year recent RN experience in an ER or acute care setting.
Licensure/Certification Required Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN) and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Licensure/Certification Preferred Certification in oncology or specialty practice area. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatrics Advanced Life Support)
