MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Nurse Leader - Nursing P9 Urology/Ortho Unit in Houston, Texas
The Clinical Nurse Leader on the Surgical Urology/Orthopedic unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for the lateral integration of care, achieving quality patient outcomes, and maintaining patient safety at the microsystem level.
The ideal candidate will have a Clinical Nurse Leader Certification and two years of clinical nurse experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
The Surgical Urology/Orthopedic unit is a 32 bed unit for an adult patient population. This fast-paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures which include postoperative prostatectomy, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, and orthopedic surgeries. Unique postoperative care of hemipelvectomy, flap monitoring, and testicular cancer surgeries are also managed on this unit. The team uses an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care. Integrated in our nursing practice are tools used to maximize the skills of team members to achieve optimal outcome and improved healthcare quality.

Essential Job Functions:
Provides clinical leadership to the nursing and interdisciplinary team. Advocates for improvements in health care systems, policies, procedures, and the professional roles of nurses and other health care providers. Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team. Assures continuity of care as patients transition across the continuum through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Educates, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Required: Master's degree in nursing with an emphasis on the Clinical Nurse Leader role.
Required: Two years clinical nurse experience in inpatient hospital setting.
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN) and Clinical Nurse Leader Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
