The Cancer Prevention Center offers a range of services to help you learn how to reduce your cancer risk or to detect cancer early.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced RN with prior Oncology experience. Ambulatory experience strongly preferred.

The primary function of the Outpatient Clinical Nurse is to be Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in the Cancer Prevention Center by utilizing the nursing process, nursing standards, knowledge of different aspects of care associated with age, and guidelines to assure continuity of care. Integrates knowledge of principles of oncology practice to prevent and manage potential problems in the Cancer Prevention Center. Communication and documentation of care consistently reflect required knowledge. Identifies and provides patient and family education needs, assesses learning needs, preferences, special needs and barriers affecting learning ability and readiness to learn. Provides appropriate instruction utilizing appropriate modalities, assesses patient understanding and document interventions on Interdisciplinary Patient Teaching Record. Utilizes diverse measures to manage the environment, quality of care, staff performance, scheduling, and logistic systems.

Designs and coordinates QI projects such as the flexible sigmoidscopy schedule, cycle study for patient waiting time, performs monthly QI of charts to determine if criteria set forth is followed.

Provides immediate supervision for the licensed nursing staff and hospital aides and assists them to identify learning needs and to resolve these needs. Performs competency assessment.

Coordinates overall clinic activity and acts as a unit preceptor as needed.

Oversees and participates in the charge capture process.

Responsible for waived testing procedures and maintaining competency for testing.



Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.


Required: None

Preferred: At least one year of Oncology experience. Prior Ambulatory experience strongly preferred.



Current State of Texas professional Nursing License (RN).
