MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Patient Safety Specialist (RN) in Houston, Texas
The primary purpose of the Clinical Patient Safety Specialist is to ensure coordination and facilitation of quality of care concerns identified through the patient safety reporting process or other quality review processes. Provides support on quality and patient safety processes to assist leadership and organizational committees in their pursuit of safety and quality improvement on the journey to high reliability.
Maintains safety and quality improvement efforts and opportunities directed toward achievement of optimal clinical and healthcare outcomes and high reliability activities.
Organizes and facilitates credible root cause analyses, apparent cause analyses, and common cause analyses on patient safety events through the implementation and control phases of monitoring, analyzing, and evaluation to sustain improvement in healthcare systems and processes.
Presents findings and recommendations to management/leadership for consideration of additional action as needed, to maintain patient safety and quality care provisions.
Interprets quality, safety and regulatory standards / criteria accurately in order to conduct assessment, analysis, and disposition of patient safety events/issues.
Utilizes performance improvement tools and techniques to assist teams throughout the safety and performance improvement life cycle.
Functions as clinical resource (for patient safety efforts) to Patient Safety Specialist and partners internally and externally to the department for educational purposes.
Uses clinical assessment skills to perform evaluations of patient safety processes and systems.
Prepare reports and analyses for departmental and institutional committees, workgroups, and leaders.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Five years of clinical nursing experience.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
