MD Anderson Cancer Center Communications Specialist- Office of the President in Houston, Texas

The Communications Specialist for the Office of the President, in partnership with the institution's Division of Institutional Advancement and through the Director, President's Office Communications is responsible for providing services that include consulting and developing products to advance communication of the goals and activities of the President.

Key Functions

Communications Program/Project Support

Under the direction and oversight of the Director, President's Office Communication, and in partnership and collaboration with the division of Institutional Advancement, the Communication Specialist is/will:

  • Responsible for developing and executing internal and external communication activities for the President Develop and/or support the creation of correspondence for the President, including grateful patient letters, fundraising support letters, letters of support for faculty grant applications, institutional letters for employee recognition, etc.

  • Create and develop slide decks for internal and external presentations on behalf of the President.

  • Coordinate visibility plans and activities with internal stakeholders.

  • Coordinate, support and arrange for continuation of the President's Listening and Learning Tour.

  • Write, manage and create content for the website related to Office of the President, the Interactions Blog and corresponding content management system.

  • Draft, edit and review remarks, as needed, for internal and external events.

  • Routinely attend face-to-face meetings with inter-institutional groups and leaders; attend key meetings and is available for consultation, as needed, as relevant to the Office of the President and as directed by the Program Manager When asked, participate in briefings of the President for institutional, philanthropic, legislative and community events, and accompany the President to such events, as necessary.

  • Work with the Integrated Media team to coordinate and facilitate the President's social media assets, including Twitter and LinkedIn, and assist with social media strategy's daily execution

  • Develop and maintain Office of the President intranet site and relevant content

  • Other duties as assigned

Onsite Presence: Position is Hybrid (home-based) with occasional on-site activities.


Required: Bachelor's degree with major in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree


Required: Two years' experience in Public Relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred degree, no experience required.

Preferred : Previous experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism in Healthcare. Previous experience writing and editing for senior executive leaders in a healthcare environment preferred.
