MD Anderson Cancer Center Coord, Transplant Data - Stem Cell Transplantation in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Transplant Data Coordinator position is to provide administrative and patient care services for the coordination of research studies. Impacts the coordination of data for research studies. Develops and maintains databases for collection of research data.

Data Management Activities

a. Reads and becomes familiar with protocol specific guidelines and general procedures for data management issues on research protocols in Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy.

b. Attends Site Initiation Meetings with research staff to learn specific role and scope of involvement in each trial she is assigned to.

c. Collects study data by visually reading patient records and outside documentation and/or interviewing physicians, fellows, nurses, patients, family members, local caregivers, laboratories and others in face to face encounters or by telephone. Learns to assist with protocol related procedures under RN or MD supervision.

d. Verifies, enters and maintains information in computer database via computer and/or by writing by hand on case report forms.

e. Consults with the principal investigator, research team and other departments by face to face encounters, by telephone, in handwritten notes, or via keyboard on computer regarding ongoing studies. Requires the ability to gather appropriate information and to determine the appropriate information to report. Requires the ability to move from assigned office to clinic and/or hospital or conference areas.

f. Maintains a level of professional expertise and credibility through attendance at both institutional and outside conferences and continuing education programs. Requires moving throughout the institution to conference areas. May require using own transportation, public transportation or that provided by the institution if attendance outside the institution is necessary.

g. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills when contacting other institutions and agencies by phone, computer-generated reports and/or face to face contacts.

h. Collects outside laboratory reports and enters them into the electronic medical record. Provides research nurse with copy of outside lab reports. Obtains CLIA Certifications from outside labs and provides these to the Regulatory Staff.

i. Assists research team with data compilation and spreadsheet generation to aid physician with professional publications.

j. Assist in retrieval of lab samples from the R4 lab and mail as specified in protocols when needed. Is knowledgeable in the practice of shipping hazardous materials.

k. Assist in transportation of blood/tissue specimens between lab and clinic as needed by protocol.

l. Assist with monitoring visits - Assembles and organizes materials (Case report forms, Shadow charts, etc.) for the monitor visits. Is available to tour new monitoring staff around the MDA campus. Assists research nurse with queries.

m. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in science or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: None.

Preferred: Two years of relevant experience.
