MD Anderson Cancer Center Coordinator, Lead Services - Melanoma & Skin Center in Houston, Texas

The Coordinator, Lead Services position in the Melanoma & Skin Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center serves as a supervisor, coach, mentor, evaluator, and trainer to the Patient Service Coordinators in the center. They coordinate daily front desk operations assignments, oversees daily processing of providers' orders, recommends and implements system and process changes, and communicates with providers, teams, and staff standard template changes prior to implementation.

Treatment plans may include the very latest therapies, access to clinical trials of new drugs, cancer vaccines, and targeted therapies, many developed at MD Anderson.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or at least two years of leadership experience.


  1. Communication with patients/family and multidisciplinary teams:
  • Patient/Family Interaction:

Greets, orients and answers questions.

Advises patients and family members of available services.

Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.

Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.

  • Multidisciplinary Teams:

Transcribes and coordinates physician orders.

Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, and necessary preparations to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas whether in person, by mail, by phone, by online applications or secure messaging.

  1. Record Maintenance:

Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records electronically and/or manually as directed.

Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record.

Responsible for the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Handles and processes a complex and varied series of documents and situations.

  1. Financial Activities in accordance with established departmental processes:

Reviews and reconciles patient charge documents.

Enters technical charges as needed.

Collect and reconcile cash, checks and credit card payments as needed.

Adherence to the Cash Manual Policies and Procedures (ensure weekly deposits are made) to the Vault at Cashier Operations Offices.

  1. Supervision/Coaching/Mentoring of PSCs

Supervises the daily activities of front desk operations personnel.

Reviews PSC coverage on a daily basis and makes assignments or changes as needed

Monitors scheduling work queues, work lists, in-basket pools and dashboards, adjusts staffing to ensure accuracy and timeliness

Recruits, orients and trains new employees; assists with preparation of justifications for incremental positions

Coordinates the training for all PSCs to ensure that they are properly trained and understand all duties and responsibilities

Proactively seeks ways to make process improvements and increase patient and provider satisfaction

Completes annual performance evaluations for PSCs.

Salary Range: $33,200 - $41,500 - $49,800


Required: Associate's degree.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree.


Required: Five years of relevant work experience, to include two years in a project coordination/lead/supervisory capacity. With preferred degree, three years of experience is required. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: At least two years of leadership experience.
