MD Anderson Cancer Center Coordinator, Patient Services - GI Surgical / Sarcoma Unit (day/evening shift) in Houston, Texas

The Coordinator, Patient Services position on the GI Surgical / Sarcoma Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center coordinates tasks associated with patient services and impacts patient care services throughout MDACC.

The GI Surgical Sarcoma Unit is a 32 bed post-operative, medical-surgical unit. Our Surgeries include but are not limited to the following: Whipple, Colon Resection, Ileostomies, Liver Resection, Small bowel Resection, and HIPEC. Patients Served, ages: 18-80 yrs.

The hours for this position will be 7am-7pm, 7am-3pm, with 26 of 52 weekends per year and occasional 3pm-11pm shifts required.

Salary Range

Minimum - $28,800 Midpoint - $36,000 Maximum - $43,200

Essential Job Functions:

Greets, provides information and directions to customers. Advises patients and family members of available services. Handles and processes a complex and varied set of documents and situations. Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments. Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas. Interprets and coordinates physician orders. Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records. Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record. Reviews and reconciles patient charge documents and collects payments in accordance with established departmental processes and guidelines. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers and visitors.

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: At least an Associate's degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis.

OTHER:

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
