Lab Operations

• Organizes, coordinates and participates in scientific research projects under the direction of a professional faculty member. Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.

• Create and manage lab research folders, files, and documents in shared directories, drives and Teams site. Perform QA and QC audits to verify compliance and accuracy of research data. Initial, develop and maintain SOPs for processes and procedures for the effective management and overall operation of the animal laboratory.

• Recommends replacement or purchase of new equipment. Assists with preparations of grant applications. Ensures that laboratories are prepared for accreditation and inspection. Ensures that the scheduling of technical procedures and personnel provide adequate patient care

Supervision

• Conducts interviews and selects new employees. Counsels and evaluates personnel. Gives recommendations for merit increases, promotions and transfers.

• Determines staffing needs and schedules personnel to provide adequate coverage. Reviews and makes recommendations for purchasing based on anticipated workload.

• Consults, modifies and/or develops new techniques required by various departments involved in patient care activities. Coordinates educational activities. Plans and/or conducts in-service programs

• Manage the orienting and training of lab personnel to refine animal skills to keep data consistent

• Keep open communication with supervisor, project PIs and other personnel between animal lab and bio-Lab within the team to update status and issues

Human Specimen Processing and Storage

• Process and store human blood and bone marrow specimens according to established protocols.

• Ensure the proper handling and disposal of biohazard materials.

• Organize and manage the storage of biological specimens, ensuring correct labeling and storage temperatures.

• Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of stored samples.

• Order and maintain laboratory supplies, including reagents and consumables needed for specimen processing.

• Adhere to institutional and regulatory guidelines related to laboratory safety, as well as data protection and confidentiality requirements for human subject research.

• Work closely with research teams to coordinate sample collection and ensure timely processing.

• Train and supervise lab personnel on specimen processing protocols and lab safety procedures.

• Communicate effectively with clinical and research staff to ensure smooth workflow and resolve any issues related to sample handling.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five years of experience in scientific, research or clinical laboratory to include three years in a lead/supervisory capacity. With preferred degree, three years of required experience in a lead/supervisory capacity.
