MD Anderson Cancer Center Data Management Architect - Institutional Analytics & Informatics in Houston, Texas

The Enterprise Data Architect provides thought leadership for the development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise data architectures and platforms for the Information Services Division at M.D. Anderson. The Enterprise Data Architect maintains knowledge of healthcare industry specific information management practices and ensures alignment with institutional information technology and security policies.

Enterprise Data Architecture Strategy

Design, develop, manage, and communicate enterprise data architecture strategies and roadmaps for MD Anderson. This includes leadership and direction to professional and technical staff in the development/maintenance of data/information architectures around real-time and batch data integration, data warehousing (including relational and NoSQL), Big Data, HIE, and analytics/business intelligence.

Data Governance Architecture Strategy

Participate in the development of architectures, strategies, and policies around data governance; including master data management, metadata management, data quality and data profiling.

Data Management

Develop data architecture standards and influence associated people, processes and technology to build and maintain the life cycle of enterprise information artifacts; identify specific technologies to promote data standards, data governance, interoperability and metadata management across transactional and business intelligence platforms within the Institution in alignment with the data architecture strategies and programs. Provides knowledge on healthcare, clinical, research and genomics domains, as needed.

Customer Relationship Management

Ensure clear and consistent communication with other work units both inside and outside the department or division.

Work Environment Management

Formalize standards, policies, and processes that integrate enterprise data architecture considerations and impact assessments into the broader set of information systems programs and project management practices. Participates in technical reviews of enterprise solutions identify opportunities for reuse of enterprise data architecture. Influence others to ensure alignment with data architecture strategies and programs.

Other Duties as Assigned

a. Stays abreast of regulatory impacts to information management.

b. Stays informed of internal organizational changes and impacts to enterprise data architecture programs.

c. Maintains a strong working technical knowledge base sufficient to understand Enterprise

Architecture and the technical challenges associated with the data architecture program in order to anticipate and identify obstacles impacting data architecture decisions.

Experience Required:

Ten years of progressive experience leading the design, development and delivery of an enterprise-wise technology architecture and blueprint, to include three years of experience as an information, integration and/or a business intelligence architect and two years of supervisory/managerial experience.

Preferred Experience:

  1. Prior experience as an enterprise data architect in a large academic healthcare institution supporting large diverse user communities working across business domains to develop and design enterprise data platforms for clinical, research, and operational purposes.

  2. Prior experience Big Data, data modeling, dimensional modeling, and NoSQL modeling and Hadoop.

  3. Prior experience in clinical or medical informatics.

  4. Prior experience with real-time and batch integration strategies, data integration strategies, application interoperability, and application lifecycle management.

  5. Prior experience with Data Governance, Master Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Stewardship, and Data Quality.
