MD Anderson Cancer Center Development Specialist - Credit Card Program in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Development Specialist position is to provide professional support for the Credit Card Program within the Development Division (Gift Operations Team) in addition to providing a strong customer service presence by assisting donors and other callers with a multitude of questions involving philanthropy . This position requires individuals that can handle detail-oriented tasks such as database management, multi-tasking between multiple team members and events/campaigns occurring at the same time. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working closely with the special events team, and Peer to Peer team. Charged with obtaining information related to events and fundraising solicitations. Distributes information to Gift Operations staff and maintains donor giving. Must be able to work independently and assist other team members with donor identification, gift coding and event assistance as needed.


Customer Service (60%)

Respond to prospect/donor email and phone inquiries and triage to appropriate Development Division staff member. Must be able to ascertain purpose of call and speak clearly to donors. Process return e-mails and phone calls related to e-mail opt out requests and other data updates resulting from departmental e-mails. Research basic constituent information and record information in a timely manner in the online database. Must have the ability to communicate in a professional manner via e-mail and phone. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and handle the stress of a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a positive attitude.

Credit Card Program and Gift Processing (30%)

Maintain integrity and PCI compliance of the credit card donations and donor database through the use of the online website. Responsible for accurately entering donor information into the Development Division database and credit card form, reaching out to donors regarding declined and expired credit cards. In the absence of the Associate Director and/or Development Specialist, provides coverage with regards to credit card reconciliation, gift posting, peer to peer reconciliation, off-line entering of gifts, event coding and posting. Includes knowledge of proper handling of quid pro quo to ensure accurate tax receipting.

Tribute Program (10%)

Responsible for coordinating the Tribute Program. Duties include addressing memorial/honor requests, maintaining weekly tribute reports, preparing 'thank you' cards, and establishing tributes by entering information into the Development Division database. In addition, monitors new fund requests for tributes: researches obituary information and interacts professionally with faculty and staff.


Required: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.


Required: One year of clerical, office, administrative, organizational, or related support experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
