MD Anderson Cancer Center Development Specialist - Prospect Development in Houston, Texas

MD Anderson is seeking a Development Specialist (Prospect Development) for their Development office in the Texas Medical Center.

Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and will have administrative experience working in a development or fundraising setting. Computer proficiency is a must.

Salary Range $38,800 - $49,500 - $60,200


The primary purpose of the Development Specialist position is to provide quality and professional prospect development functions in a team environment for Development Office staff responsible for direct and indirect fundraising activities in order to support major gift development.


Focused Prospect Research. Support assigned field staff by conducting and composing in-depth prospect research as needed to support donor cultivation and solicitation. Create concise, accurate and timely research products using biographical information, financial data, news and philanthropic history.

Basic Prospect Research. Working in a deadline driven environment, provide basic prospect research in support of Special Programs; donor visits, events; and provide preliminary support to the Prospect Research staff in their ongoing pipeline analysis. Research and enter obituary information found through online newspaper search, enter updates in the donor database, notify appropriate Development staff in a timely manner. Work on special research projects as assigned by senior prospect development staff members.

General reference. Act as liaison between Prospect Development, Gift Processing and other Development Office staff by daily fulfilling general reference questions relating to addresses, names, phone numbers, relationships and death. Proactively scan news sources for pertinent prospect information and notify senior prospect researchers or field staff of news as appropriate.

General data entry support. Enter into the donor database, appropriate prospect research as completed by the Research staff. Provide data entry support as needed, maintaining the integrity of the donor database.


Required: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or Business/Marketing or a related field.


Required: One year of clerical, office, administrative, organizational, or related support experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Experience in a Development/Fundraising setting. Personal computer proficient
