The primary purpose of the Development Specialist position is to provide professional support for the Credit Card Program and Holiday Giving Program within the Development Office (Finance Team) in addition to providing a strong customer service presence by assisting donors and other callers with a multitude of questions involving philanthropy.


Maintain integrity and PCI compliance of the credit card donations and donor database through the use of the online website. Responsible for accurately entering donor information into the Development Office database and credit card form and reaching out to donors regarding declined and expired credit cards.

  1. Respond to prospect/donor email and phone inquiries and triage to appropriate Development Office staff member. Must be able to ascertain purpose of call and speak clearly to donors.

  2. Assists with coordination of the Holiday Giving Program by preparing packets, receiving reports of names and preparing cards to be mailed. Must be able to multi-task. Duties include processing donations, preparing packets, printing cards, and handling mailings.

  3. Coordinate the Tribute Program. Duties include addressing memorial/honor request, maintaining weekly tribute reports, preparing ‘thank you’ cards, establishing tributes by entering information into the Development Office database. Along with monitoring new fund request for tributes, researching obituary information and professionally interacting with faculty and staff.

  4. Process return e-mails and phone calls related to e-mail opt out requests and other data updates resulting from departmental e-mails. Research basic constituent information and record information in a timely manner in the online database. Must have the ability to communicate in a professional manner via e-mail and phone.

  5. Serve as back up for the Development Specialist with regards to credit card reconciliation for multiple merchant accounts daily and monthly; includes working closing with Gift Processing and other members of the Finance Team.

  6. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervisor: effectively and efficiently organize and prioritize workload to meet constantly changing demands; maintain system for storing and retrieving information. Must handle the stress of a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a positive attitude.



Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.



One year of direct experience in development operations, or related experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
