MD Anderson Cancer Center Dispatcher- Patient Transportation (6am-2:30pm Mon-Fri) in Houston, Texas

Dispatcher opportunity in Patient Transportation. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and two years phone dispatch/operations supervision experience or two years patient transportation/driving experience May substitute required experience with equivalent related college on a one to one basis.
SHIFT/HOURS: 6:00am-2:30pm Monday- Friday and Rotating Weekends
This position will require a mandatory departmental training/orientation schedule for the first 6-13 weeks of employment. Training will be conducted Monday-Friday and consist of the following:
Week 1- 7:15am-3:45pm
Week 2-7 7:45am-3:15pm
Week 8-9 6:00am-2:30pm
Week 10-11 2:00pm-10:30pm
Week 12-13 10:00pm-6:30am
The primary purpose of the Transportation Dispatcher position is responsible for assigning escorts to transport patients and specimens both safely and efficiently to designate areas throughout the Institution and is responsible for monitoring transports, answering the phone, providing customer service and communicating with the supervisors and the staff of the requesting areas.
Key Functions
I. Dispatching
Efficient and effective usage of electronic based system to assign transports to escorts throughout he institution; efficient in multi-tasking
Ensures the requestor has identified appropriate equipment to the escort for transporting
Maintains knowledge and efficiency in available resources to reduce the level of delays to customers; implements and communicates contingency plan with management, when volume is heavy or delays are inevitable
Rapid response and dispatch of code blue stretcher request to the next available escort; adjust the priorities to ensure expediency
Provide directions to escorts in prioritizing assignments
II. Coordinating
Efficiently and effectively handle oxygen related request; maintain knowledge of standards and criteria for properly handling oxygen
Assists, verbally and manually with gathering statistical information as required
Seeks to ensure that productivity standards are met and immediately informs management when escorts are not meeting standards
Communicates all outstanding issues and concerns to incoming dispatchers or escorts appropriately; document all related issues during the transition as needed
III. Customer Service
Verbally answers and responds to incoming calls in a clear, professional, courteous and timely manner
Assures nursing or requesting units are aware of the delays. Visually review assignment logs for completeness and accuracy; contact appropriate supervisor if needed
Assists management in dealing with problematic issues and investigates of complaints / concerns
Develops strong peer relationships with customers and provides input to leadership for improving services

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Education Preferred: Associates degree.
Experience Required: Two years phone dispatch/operations supervision experience or two years patient transportation or driving experience. With preferred degree, no experience required.
