MD Anderson Cancer Center Division Head, Cancer Medicine in Houston, Texas

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for an outstanding physician to provide administrative leadership and broad direction and coordination of all activities in the Division of Cancer Medicine.

The candidate should be an accomplished clinical leader, nationally recognized with a strong academic reputation and who has the leadership qualities to further develop a globally recognized division. The Division Head is responsible for management of all activities of the division including finance and budget, resource allocation, faculty and staff performance management, clinical practice quality, education (including a nationally recognized and accredited Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program), and basic, clinical, and translational research. The incumbent will also provide career development opportunities and mentorship for division faculty and trainees, and foster their growth in clinical, research, academic, and professional areas.

The selected individual will be responsible for long-range planning for the Division's clinical care, research, and education in alignment with the institutional strategy plan to maximize our impact on humanity through expanding our reach and making it easier for patients and communities to access our expertise; accelerating research breakthroughs that will meaningfully improve health outcomes; and enhancing the value of our care.

The Division of Cancer Medicine is the largest medical oncology group in the country, with 13 clinical departments (Breast, Gastrointestinal, General, Genitourinary, Melanoma, Sarcoma, and Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology; Investigational Cancer Therapeutics, Leukemia, Lymphoma/Myeloma, Neuro-Oncology, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation Medicine, and Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy) and 3 basic science departments (Experimental Therapeutics, Genomic Medicine, and Hematopoietic Biology & Malignancy). With almost 3000 faculty and staff, it is the largest of the nine divisions that comprise MD Anderson's faculty medicine enterprise. The Division offers medical oncology services at MD Anderson's flagship Texas Medical Center location and its four Houston area locations, as well as the Harris County Health District's Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.

Qualifications:

  • MD or equivalent degree

  • Minimum 10 years of academic experience in oncology

  • Prior administrative experience at a departmental or institutional level

  • National recognition and proven track record in clinical and/or laboratory research

  • Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to creating and maintaining a culture of diversity, inclusion, professionalism, accountability, and excellence

  • Certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (or equivalent training, if American board certification is not feasible)

  • Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure
