The Executive Director for Biologics & Immunotherapy Translation Platform (ORBIT) is responsible for leading all aspects of the scientific activities dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative therapeutic antibody discovery and development including IND-enabling preclinical studies. Consistent with the institution's mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, this position will collaborate with various Clinical Departments, Legal, Business Development, Strategic Industry Ventures, Innovation, Development, Human Resources, and others to develop strategic design, operations, programs, projects and functions and to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Develop framework and lead execution for MD Anderson's innovative anti-cancer monoclonal antibodies for cancer therapy.
As a member of the leadership team, design, develop and implement comprehensive preclinical monoclonal antibody development plans, including biomarker strategy, to guide early clinical development.
Build, and lead a team of scientists conducting discovery and translational research to advance (1) Antibody discovery & engineering; (2) Program biology; (3) Target biology and (4) In vivo pharmacology into early clinical development.
Function as a key member of TDD senior leadership team, setting strategy and course, and ensuring cross-functional coordination.
Apply expertise in the field of biologics discovery to influence and adapt ORBIT strategy through ongoing evaluation of the field and pivot the overall strategy and program progression as required.
Identify, build and manage additional collaborative relationships with external groups to bring additional projects into the portfolio.
Provide functional and technical management to scientific personnel within the group.
Write and review manuscripts for publication.
Lead data interpretation/analysis, discussion and presentation on behalf of project teams to both internal and external stakeholders, and generate reports, including those for regulatory filings.
Collaborate with clinical developments teams to design and execute preclinical studies to address specific requirements for candidate selection and clinical studies.
Collaborate with clinical teams to lead the preparation and development of IND applications to enable clinical trials.
Recruit and maintain a top-notch collaborative and innovative team.
Required: PhD, MD or equivalent degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or related field.
Required: At least ten (10) years of industry or industry-like experience in biological drug discovery research. Experience must include supervisory and leadership experience. Must have strong background in biology, antibody engineering and drug discovery.
Preferred: Experience in biological drug discovery processes and requirement for successful clinical development. First-hand experience and successful record of accomplishment in antibody drug discover characterization and lead optimization.
