The Imaging Research Technician coordinates procedures and performs technical duties in accordance with specific plans for experimental imaging instrumentation. He/she will perform independent research projects utilizing imaging equipment.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Experiments and Data - Coordinates and conducts projects in experimental imaging to include acquisition and analyses of data and images.
Establishes and modifies procedures in experimental imaging in accordance with project needs to include developing, optimizing image analysis methods, and acquisition protocols.
Works with users to include faculty, staff and trainees to develop and improve small animal experimental imaging technology.
Proficient in manipulating and archiving data and information using a variety of commonly used word processing, data processing, graphic communication, and web-based computer programs.
Assists in clear, concise recording of data and information in written documents (animal records, research documents, etc.) and maintenance of organized research-related records.
Equipment maintenance and Quality Control - Responsible for the maintenance and operation of a variety of imaging equipment including radiographic, magnetic resonance, computed tomographic, gamma camera, positron emission tomographic, ultrasound, and optical imaging equipment.
Maintains instruments to include quality control, inventory, arrange for repairs and calibration and shipment of parts/equipment.
Coordinates equipment service events with service contractors, and MDACC engineering team. Follow-up on service events to ensure/verify safety and proper imaging performance, perform equipment quality assurance tests after service is completed.
Properly clean and sanitize equipment and ancillary equipment following each procedure.
Designs and fabricates electronic circuitry and mechanical systems.
Animal Handling: Inventory and Maintenance - General knowledge of support procedures used during small animal imaging procedures.
Proper respect for humane care and handling of research animals in accordance with institutional, USDA, AALAC, and NIH accreditation standard operating procedures.
Properly clean areas and equipment following each procedure.
Assists in routine lab maintenance, including inventory and ordering of supplies.
Technical Image Analysis Software Optimizes image acquisition protocols. Develops image analysis methods. Analyzes imaging and spectroscopic data. Works with faculty to develop and improve small experimental imaging technology.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field. No experience required.
