MD Anderson Cancer Center Instrumentation Technician - Dining Services in Houston, Texas

The Instrumentation Technician in the department of Dining Services at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center provides highly skilled technical work involving electronic, electrical, and mechanical control of hospital dining services and nutrition systems and equipment. Work will include the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration elements of kitchen equipment, including commercial ovens and stoves, refrigeration equipment, hot & cold food carts, ice machines, and the assembling and installation of equipment and shelving as it is received for our dining services venues across the Texas Medical Center.

The schedule will be Monday to Friday from 7:30am-4:30pm, with occasional after hours or weekend work required depending on the work or maintenance needing to be completed.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:

Minimum $29.92 - Midpoint $33.65 - Maximum $40.38

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Maintain, Repair and Troubleshoot:

Performs functions on live circuits and in operating controls enclosures. May install, troubleshoot, and repair 120- and 208-volt and controls and equipment per NEC guidelines. Skilled in practices, methods, materials, and tools for MEP services. Maintain and repair typical kitchen electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Install, calibrate, and check assigned systems using manual dexterity, hand tools, and visual acuity. Troubleshoot kitchen equipment in or out of control systems and replace or repair defective components. Coordinate with purchasing team for inventory and requisition kitchen equipment parts, annual asset audit, lockout/tagout kitchen equipment out of service, commissioning, and decommissioning kitchen equipment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.

Respond to customer calls and emergency responses:

Respond to customer calls and provide services in a timely manner. Provide emergency responses for facilities, including code red. Provide support to sanitation team for moving and/or unplugging equipment as needed.

Document and communication:

Accurately document responses and actions taken in response to calls to include but not limited to labor hours, materials used, and work orders. Timely communication to supervisor of any challenges, workflow disruptions, or other issues encountered while performing work.

May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: At least four years of electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience, to include two years of electrical experience. With Journeyman Electrician's license, two years of electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience, to include one year of electrical experience.

Preferred: Experience performing minor repairs and maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration equipment. Prior experience working on or with kitchen equipment would be a plus.
