MD Anderson Cancer Center Lead Services Coordinator - Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Clinical Support in Houston, Texas

MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Lead Services Coordinator opportunity in its Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Clinical Support department. Individuals must adapt to the constant, fast-paced environment and changing demands of the department and institution. The ability to multitask, possess strong customer service skills, good organizational skills, time management, and be detail-oriented is a plus. Prefer candidates with experience working in a procedural area, an operating room (OR) environment, or coordinating care for patients undergoing procedures under anesthesia.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant work experience; with an Associate's degree three years of required experience.

Shift: Days, Varied, Rotating, Primary shift: 8-5 pm although can work 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, 6:30-3:30 pm, 6:00-3:00 pm.

Work location: 100% onsite in the clinic.

The primary purpose of the Lead Services Coordinator position is to provide and coordinate all tasks associated with patient services within a clinical procedural setting, including but not limited to patient scheduling, clinic template maintenance, supply inventory maintenance, supply ordering, specimen processing, and tracking patient cancellations and reschedules.

  1. Monitor Daily Front Desk Operations: Functions as a technical expert and resource for the online scheduling system and other systems related to the work of the PSCs in the Clinical Procedural Environment. To accommodate clinic closures, maintain daily templates, including blocking and unblocking, as directed by the Program Manager. Act as a role model for the PSCs and support Clinical management. Perform all functions of a Patient Service Coordinator.

  2. EZ Call: Generates weekly/monthly work schedules as delegated.

  3. Communication: Receive multiple telephone calls from internal/external customers and direct calls appropriately; consistently demonstrate open communication behaviors, professionalism, and integrity; recognize when to redirect questions outside of the scope of the position to other healthcare team members.

  4. Scheduling: Demonstrates accuracy and analytical skill in the interpretation and coordination of physician orders to schedule diagnostic tests, procedures, treatments, and physician appointments.

  5. Collaborate with clinic management to maintain procedure room daily templates, ensuring that physician and patient waiting times are kept to a minimum. Using positive team-building behaviors, ensure the delivery of quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, and other directives from physicians, nurses, and/or administrators.

  6. Regulatory Compliance: Attends required in-services and reviews. Demonstrates accountability for information contained in policies and procedures for the institution and the procedure area. Demonstrates awareness of and concerns for patients' safety by assisting in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors in accordance with Joint Commission and institutional standards. Recognizes unsafe conditions and will call the appropriate persons to handle it demonstrating awareness and concern for the patient's and co-workers' safety (i.e., HIPPA, fire drills, EEE, Joint Commission)

  7. Procurement: Functions as Departmental Buyer for clinical areas; places all requested orders via computer or verbally communicates with vendors via telephone, online transactions, or email. Monitors Procedure Room supply inventory and PAR levels, communicating closely with Distribution Services regarding supply issues on daily deliveries.

  8. Provide administrative support, as assigned to the Program Manager

  9. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate's degree

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five years of relevant work experience or three years of required experience with the preferred degree.

Preferred: Experience working in a procedural area, an operating room (OR) environment, or coordinating care for patients undergoing procedures under anesthesia.
