Medical Assistant opportunity in the Breast Center. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of Medical Assistant experience; preferably breast oncology experience; oncology is a plus.

Shift: 8:00am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to provide patient care and customer service assistance to the ambulatory care patient as delegated and support daily operations of the center.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Assists with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to exam rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose, A1C, PT/INR, and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift, and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares, and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains QC checks and inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Serves on various institutional and center quality improvement committees.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

CERTIFICATION

Required: None

Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

Preferred: Two years of medical assistant experience; preferably breast/oncology experience.
