Summary

The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to act as a lead assistant in preparing patients for Diagnostic Imaging Radiology appointments and assisting in patient flow and procedures. Medical Assistants perform direct patient care in a dynamic, high volume environment.

Medical Assistant opportunity in Diagnostic Imaging. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of Medical Assistant experience.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Clinical & Patient Care/Coordination Skills - Demonstrates proficiency in taking patient vital signs along with pertinent patient information and accurately enters in the medical record, hard copy or electronic. - Identifies variances in lab values according to department designated parameters and notifies appropriate staff. Demonstrates initiative to complete responsibilities i.e. triaging requisitions, screening incoming calls, documents pre/post patient information, removes intravenous lines according to training protocol. Maximizes procedure room utilization by escorting patients to exam/imaging rooms, assisting with room turnover/patient transfers, cleans and prepares procedure/imaging rooms and equipment. Maintains patient safety through compliance with Institutional policies, Infection Control practices and Joint Commission regulations

Accurately schedules patient appointments in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinical operations. Demonstrates flexibility with shift and area location assignments based on department operational needs. Completes required pre-screening of patients for designated procedures

Technical Skills - Appropriately uses the electronic health record system to track according to identified department steps. Demonstrates sterile technique when required for procedures Complies with departmental and institutional specimen handling protocols and procedures. Participates in departmental rotation for Zip Rounding. Assists with stocking of supplies. Maintains designated PAR (Periodic Automatic Replenishment). Levels and reports expired supplies to Supervisor. Promptly reports equipment errors/malfunctions to a member of the CABI leadership team. Demonstrates the ability to independently follow high level disinfection procedures for designated equipment.

Communication Skills - Confirms scheduled appointments with patients, communicating in a clear and professional manner consistent with the Divisional Service Excellence Standards. Communicates patient related concerns to the healthcare team on a timely basis. Answers phone. Triages and processes message from patients and investigative teams to appropriate individuals. Consistently maintains professionalism when interacting with others through the consistent use of positive, respectful dialogues. Provides clear instructions for patients on pre-exam preparation needs.

Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality.

Appropriately utilizes paging system.

Services Orientation - Provide service to our customers, including patients, patient caregivers, referring physicians and each other, in a reliable, responsive, safe, friendly and courteous manner. EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma/equivalent.

Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year of medical assistant experience; with preferred degree, no experience is required.
