The Medical Assistant in the Gastrointestinal Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center position provides patient care and customer service assistance to the ambulatory care patient, as delegated, and supports daily operations of the center.

MD Anderson's Gastrointestinal (GI) Center team offers many treatment options, including targeted therapies, minimally invasive surgery, proton therapy and innovative chemotherapy methods as part of a customized treatment plan. Our expertise and advanced diagnostic tools allows us to deliver the most comprehensive care available for GI cancers.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience working as a medical assistant.
Patient Care Assignments:
Accurately record vital signs and other data, report abnormalities to nursing staff.
Aids in completion of daily activities of daily living, mobilization, grooming, rooming and vital signs of patients.
Escalates significant events and concerns regarding patients and their care to appropriate nursing staff.
Responsible for the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Provide service to our customers, including patients, patient caregivers, referring physicians and each other, in a reliable, responsive, safe, friendly and courteous manner.
Promote inclusiveness and collegiality by demonstrating respect and professionalism to others at all times.
Model safe and ethical behavior.

Required: High school diploma/equivalent or completion of an approved Medical Assistant program or military medical training.
Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With completion of medical assistant program or military medical training, no experience is required.
Preferred: Must have at least one year of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
Required: Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
