Clinical Flow Cytometry
The laboratory handles all clinical samples for immunophenotyping by flow cytometry. The samples include peripheral blood, bone marrow, body fluids, stem cell (apheresis) products, fine needle aspirates and solid tissues (fresh, not fixed or frozen). The majority of samples are from patients with hematological malignancies as immunophenotyping is an essential tool for diagnosis, classification and monitoring of leukemia and lymphoma. Other samples include blood specimens for lymphocyte subset analysis, to monitor immune status following stem cell transplant or other therapy. Once the samples are processed and analyzed, the final data are reviewed and reported by hematopathologists with interpretative comments as appropriate. The laboratory is

Performs all laboratory-testing specific to the assigned section.
Remains knowledgeable and competent for all policies, procedures and protocols.
Competent in processing specimen, staining, and acquisition.
Able to accurately analyze basic panels on a daily basis.
Capable of recognizing basic errors such missing antibodies, too low events acquired.
Able to accurately sign off on basic panels such as ratio, lymphocyte subsets, and\or CD34.
Follows section's inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents.
Completes, verifies and reports testing in timely manner.
Complies with safety guidelines and procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates.
Remains responsible and accountable for all actions.
Enhances productivity and laboratory lab functions by demonstrating dependability.
Adjusts, prioritizes, and organizes work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section.
Adheres to attendance policy, begins work as scheduled.
Works independently, utilizes resources available to maximize efficiency.
Participate in laboratory functions
- Participates in process improvement projects.
Maintains proficiency on computer functions in the lab processes.
Properly acquires specimen data into computer system(s).
Analyzes and evaluates patient results correctly and appropriately.
Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.

Bachelor's degree -OR- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Genetic Technology -OR - completion of an accredited Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science program. With Bachelor's degree, one year clinical lab experience.
