As the lead technician, assist the supervisor in all aspects of lab responsibility.

  • Actively participates in training and orientation of new technicians to learn job duties and responsibilities.

  • Administers and maintains competency testing documentation of all the training provided.

  • Assists section supervisor with department functions.

  • Communicates problems with Supervisor or Lab Manager as needed.

  • Provides input for employee evaluations as requested.

  • Independently performs work without undue reliance on others and assists co-workers as time permits

  • Keeps abreast of new procedures and policies

  • Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance

  • Maintains neat, accurate and complete records according to established policies and procedures

  • Readily instructs new personnel and students regarding theories, techniques, and processes

Performs assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Correctly receives, accessions, processes, and assures proper identification of specimens

  • Evaluates specimen integrity and notifies appropriate personnel of unacceptable specimens in accordance with departmental procedure

  • Independently performs work without undue reliance on others and assists co-workers as time permits

  • Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance

  • Maintains neat, accurate and complete records according to established policies and procedures - Acquires and maintains proficiency in departmental functions

Maintains organized processes to provide optimal and timely patient results.

  • Prioritizes and organizes workflow, meeting productivity goals of the section

  • Adjusts to daily workflows and assists daily as needed.

  • Remains knowledgeable of processes and pre-analytical procedures enabling efficient trouble shooting and problem solving

  • Assists with monitoring and documenting of the sections inventory control system while assuring effective use of supplies.

Performs all tasks in positive manner to result in appropriate positive customer service.

  • Complies with section's telephone courtesy policies and procedures

  • Reports results of problem resolutions to callers in accordance with section's policies

  • Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers

  • Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances; remains willing and capable of assisting with crisis situations

  • Consistently well groomed; maintains a high standard of personal hygiene; adheres to the section/divisional dress code.

Other duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences. May substitute required education degree with combination of additional years of equivalent experience or completed college credit on a one to one basis.
