MD Anderson Cancer Center Nurse Manager - Cardiopulmonary Center in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY
Function:
Manages nursing personnel providing safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care throughout the Cardiopulmonary Center.
Scope:
Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates individualized nursing care, nursing care management, and nursing personnel management for the Cardiopulmonary Center. Designs and implements training programs for nursing staff. Stays abreast of current trends in nursing and advises center leadership on emerging trends in nursing care.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Operations Management
Manages and directs all nursing operations in the Cardiopulmonary Center. Creates daily nursing assignments. Assures uniformity of care, efficiencies, and productivity throughout the clinical areas in the Center. Develops, implements, and oversees nursing operational policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with institutional, unit based, and external regulatory requirements.
Personnel Management
Oversees the selection, supervision, and development of nursing, and assistive staff. Participates in hiring, corrective action, termination, merits, and promotions. Assures competency of personnel managed and monitors continuing education. Prepares annual and periodic evaluations of staff managed. Ensures appropriate safe staffing levels and practices according to established policies and procedures. Develops and participates in orientation and in-service education programs for areas within the Cardiopulmonary Center.
Financial Management
Participates in the budget development process. Monitors budget. Leads cost reduction efforts or revenue enhancement efforts.
Quality Assurance
Implements, educates, and help direct the center's QI plan, assuring high quality standards. Identifies opportunities for continuous quality improvement. Oversees nursing documentation. Collaborates with care providers to review, enhance, and monitor standards of care through performance improvement activities, including the development of quality initiatives such as pathways, protocols, procedures, and staff education.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Chairs or participates as a member in nursing committees or activities.
Initiates and participates in studies designed to improve care of patients.
Participates in workshops and observation work experiences for visitors.
Participates in planning for renovations of existing or new facilities.
Other duties as required.
EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Five years of professional nursing experience, to include one year of supervisory experience in direct patient care activities.
Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Required:
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
OTHER
Required:
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
