MD Anderson Cancer Center Operating Room Equipment Technician - Main OR Nursing in Houston, Texas
Operating Room (OR) Equipment Technician
The ideal candidate for the OR Equipment Technician position will have at least two years of Operating Room Equipment experience, laparoscopic experience, and experience handling robotics equipment.
Key Functions
Equipment Needs Assessment:
Monitor the surgery schedule to identify posted cases with special equipment/technology needs.
Interact directly with nursing staff in determining equipment necessary.
Verify 24 hours prior to case that all battery-powered equipment is plugged in and charging.
Verify 24 hours prior to case that equipment is functioning properly.
Intraoperative Technical Support
Insure equipment is set up and ready to go prior to patient incision.
Maintain competencies in setup, operation & troubleshooting of OR equipment such as LASERs, surgical robots, video towers/insufflators, microscopes, perfusion/infusion technology and other technology as assigned.
Competently operate equipment/technology as necessary during surgical intervention.
Remain available and able to respond quickly during the course of the surgical intervention to assist as needed with any troubleshooting.
Complete any necessary documentation of the use of equipment.
Report any malfunctioning equipment immediately by initiating repair request and contacting Clinical Engineering Services.
Clean and return all equipment to its designated storage location postoperatively and store appropriately.
Education/Training
Demonstrate competency in all critical aspects of responsibilities through an observational competency assessment.
Assist with education and training of appropriate personnel regarding technology/equipment.
Coach new employees hired in the role of Equipment Technicians
Utilize appropriate adult education principles in training others in the use of technology.
Assist in competency assessment of other personnel who might occasionally be required to operate equipment.
Maintain current knowledge regarding new technology, equipment, products, services through consulting with technical representatives, literature research, attending training, etc
Support of other OR Staff
Transport patients to the OR when assigned.
Assist with transferring and positioning patients in the OR.
Assist with obtaining needed supplies when appropriate.
Assist with safeguarding patient safety during the reversal of anesthesia.
Assist with providing expeditious room turnovers when assigned.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Required: Two years of operating room experience.
