MD Anderson Cancer Center Paramedic - Acute Care Services (Day/Eve OR Eve/Night) in Houston, Texas

Paramedics are members of the Acute Care Services (ACS) team which provides operational oversight for emergency medical response at MD Anderson Cancer Center. ACS ensures emergency medical care is provided to all patients, visitors, and workforce members and defines what number should be called for assistance. Emergency medical care, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), is provided by the Code Blue Teams for events occurring in or near the Mays Clinic Building and the Main Building. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides emergency medical care at all other locations including the sky bridges.

This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position.

Ideal candidate will have successfully completed a Texas Department of State Human Services approved EMT-Paramedic training course, will have two years' experience as a Paramedic and will have a Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care in relation to the patient's immediate medical needs, in accordance with procedures outlined by Acute Care Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides medical assistance as outlined by departmental and discipline specific competencies. Provides medical emergency response. May use equipment including but not limited to, defibrillator, electrocardiograph, and laryngoscope. Performs endotracheal intubation as needed to open an airway and ventilate the patient. Provides IV or IO access as needed during emergencies. Administers oxygen, aerosol therapy, intravenous drugs or fluid replacement as directed by a physician or medical protocol. Places immobilization devices as needed to ensure patient safety.

Assists in transportation or movement of patients. Assists in lifting, carrying, and transporting patients into, within, or out of our facility.

EDUCATION

Required: Successful completion of a Texas Department of State Human Services (DSHS) approved EMT-Paramedic training course or Bachelor's degree.

CERTIFICATION/ LICENSE

Required: All of the following:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Texas Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years' experience as a Paramedic.
