The Patient Care Technician position on the Urology & Orthopaedic Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse, and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

The Urology and Orthopaedic Unit is a 32 bed surgical unit for adult patient population. This fast paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures which includes: postoperative prostatectomy, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, and orthopaedic surgeries. Unique postoperative care of hemipelvectomy, flap monitoring, and testicular cancer surgeries are managed on this unit. This unit uses an interdisciplinary collaborative team approach to patient care. Staffing ratio is determined by the acuity of the patient.

The ideal candidate will have prior direct patient care experience in an acute care setting. This position will primarily work day shifts – either 7am-7pm or 7am-3pm, with the occasional need of evening shift, 3pm-11pm and 26 of 52 weekend shifts per year.

Salary Range

Minimum - $28,800 Midpoint - $36,000 Maximum - $43,200

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs. Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs. Updates and retrieves patient information. Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Acts as part of an assigned care team.

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience a one to one basis.

Preferred: Nursing assistant or other related experience in a clinical setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
