MD Anderson Cancer Center Per Diem Medical Assistant - Head and Neck Center in Houston, Texas

MD Anderson Cancer is seeking a Per Diem Medical Assistant in its Head & Neck Center. The ideal candidate will be a Certified/Registered Medical Assistant with at least two years of relevant Medical Assistant experience.
The primary function of the Per Diem Medical Assistant in the Head & Neck Center is to act as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures.
Essential Job Functions
Prepares patient rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Positions, lifts and moves patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.
Other duties as assigned
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.
Preferred: Two years of Medical Assistant experience; preferably in an ambulatory and outpatient setting.
Required: Certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
