MD Anderson Cancer Center Per Diem Nurse - Radiation Therapeutic Nursing in Houston, Texas

Position Overview: This per diem RN position supports the Radiation Therapeutics Services team, specifically during weekend operations. The RN will work closely with radiation therapists to ensure high-quality care for inpatients and outpatients receiving radiation therapy treatments over the weekend. The nurse will be responsible for collaborating with healthcare teams to manage patient care, monitor treatment progress, and provide necessary clinical interventions.

Shift- The position primarily involves weekend shifts, with occasional weekday availability required for educational or training purposes. The shift starts at 7:45 AM and lasts until the last patient is seen, typically no more than 8 hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration with Radiation Therapists:

Work in close coordination with radiation therapists to provide care to patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Ensure that patients are prepared for treatment and that any necessary interventions are conducted as part of the radiation therapy plan.

Patient Monitoring and Care:

Administer medications and provide nursing care as required during treatment.

Assess and monitor patient vital signs, reaction to treatments, and any side effects.

Offer supportive care to manage symptoms or complications related to radiation therapy.

Communication with Inpatient Nursing Staff:

Receive and provide report to the inpatient nursing team about the patient's status and treatment progress.

Ensure proper documentation of treatment and nursing interventions.

Weekend Coverage:

Support weekend radiation therapy services, ensuring that all patient care activities are completed efficiently.

Respond to any urgent care needs related to radiation therapy patients during weekend shifts.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow safety protocols and ensure patient safety during radiation therapy procedures.

Maintain compliance with all institutional policies, guidelines, and procedures regarding patient care, radiation safety, and infection control.

Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Experience

Required: One year of relevant clinical nursing experience.

Certification/Licensure

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
