Job Information

MD Anderson Cancer Center Postdoctoral Fellow - Bioinformatics & Computational Biology- Korkut Lab in Houston, Texas

Our group at the MD Anderson Cancer Center Bioinformatics & Comp Bio department is recruiting talented postdocs to study translational bioinformatics, cancer genomics, spatial biology, and machine learning algorithm development to address major problems in cancer biology and precision oncology.

Experience in bioinformatics, image analysis, and good programming skills are required. This is a major opportunity as our group has accumulated a vast amount of spatial omics/single cell and other omics data in diverse cancer types from clinically annotated tumors. The postdoc will be able to lead and/or support these projects with likely very interesting outcomes/publications. The projects involve developing new machine learning algorithms for predictive data analysis and analysis of translational data. We have established many productive collaborations with clinical and other basic science groups to fuel the research with diverse samples from the most innovative clinical trials, clinical translation programs, and important problems in basic/clinical oncology.

In addition to existing data, the postdoc will have access to diverse core facilities and cutting-edge microscopes for new data generation, and many translational projects with likely rapid impact on clinical decision-making.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Learning basic principles of computational biology and their applications in the precision oncology field. The candidate will attend meetings and other institutional activities to learn about the major problems in precision oncology. With literature searches and manuscript writing, the trainee will develop the deep skills required for state-of-the-art cancer research.

  2. Learning to build machine learning models to predict responses to combination therapies that are tailored to multi-omic profiles of tumors. The candidate will learn network modeling, deep learning, and unsupervised data analysis algorithms to use cancer multi-omics data to match the most effective therapies to tumors with the specified molecular backgrounds.

  3. Learning to analyze data to extract therapeutic vulnerabilities. The candidate will learn parsing, processing, and quality control of molecular data and mining the relevant cancer precision knowledge databases to be able to establish new precision oncology paradigms.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

PhD degree in a relevant field (STEM).

Experience in bioinformatics or image analysis.

Good programming skills (R, Python, C++, Java).

Understanding of fundamentals of cancer biology.
