MD Anderson Cancer Center Postdoctoral Fellow - Tumor Microbiology, Cancer Cell Biology and Genomics in Houston, Texas

The Bullman Laboratory at the Department of Immunology, chaired by Dr. James P. Allison, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our interdisciplinary and collaborative team. Our lab includes clinical microbiologists, computational biologists, biochemists, and cancer geneticists united by a mission to improve the diagnosis and treatment of human cancer, with a focus on gastrointestinal cancers, ultimately aiming to extend the lives of cancer patients.

Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, we integrate human data sets with in vivo and in vitro models to investigate the role of tumor-infiltrating bacteria in cancer progression, metastasis, treatment resistance, and the tumor microenvironment (TME).

We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong background in cancer cell biology, lineage tracing, and cell and molecular biology. The position will focus on uncovering how tumor-infiltrating bacteria influence the TME and cellular functions, ultimately contributing to treatment resistance, cancer progression, and metastasis. Prior experience with microbiome research is not required, as ample training will be provided, though an interest in this area is essential.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The Fellow will have opportunities to:

• Explore host-microbe interactions in gastrointestinal cancer microbiota and the TME using advanced spatial imaging technologies, single-cell sequencing, and functional genomics approaches.

• Perform lineage tracing and investigate cellular and molecular pathways impacted by tumor-associated bacteria.

• Leverage genomics and transcriptomics data, as well as preclinical models, to decipher the mechanisms of bacterial impact on cancer progression.

• Engage in collaborative, cross-disciplinary research with access to state-of-the-art facilities and tools.

• Acquire professional development and expertise in single-cell sequencing, small molecule screens, tissue imaging approaches, and translational research planning and strategy.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Ph.D. in biological sciences, cancer biology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field.

• Demonstrated expertise in cancer cell biology, lineage tracing, and cell and molecular biology techniques.

• A track record of scientific productivity, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.

• Strong collaboration, curiosity, creativity, and organizational skills.

• Dedication to advancing fundamental knowledge of the cancer microbiome and translating findings into innovative therapeutic strategies.

If you are passionate about unraveling the complex interactions between microbes and cancer biology and making a tangible impact in cancer research, we encourage you to apply.
