MD Anderson Cancer Center Psychometrist - Wefel Lab (Neuro Oncology) in Houston, Texas
SUMMARY
A psychometrist is responsible for the administration and scoring of psychological and neuropsychological tests evaluating cognitive, neuropsychological, academic, behavioral, and emotional status used in the diagnosis of neurological and psychological disorders.
Additionally, a psychometrist will also make note of behavioral observations during the course of the assessment that may be used by the clinical neuropsychologist to aid in test interpretation. The psychometrist may also be responsible for collecting demographic information from a patient. The psychometrist must be able to communicate clearly in oral and written form, exhibit a professional demeanor when interacting with patients, families and other professional staff, be detail oriented, and have basic computer proficiency.
KEY FUNCTIONS
General duties include performing a variety of neuropsychological and general psychological test procedures and assisting patients in overcoming concerns, anxieties, aggressions, and resistance. Psychometrists record test results ensuring adherence to testing and data collection protocols, including behavioral observations, score test results, organize, and present data in summary form and review the scoring, data, and summary reports for completeness and accuracy. Maintaining test materials and equipment in proper working order is also a component of a psychometrist's duties. Additionally, this person will assist in scheduling patients for testing, confirming appointments, obtaining informed consent for clinical and research purposes, assist in maintaining patient files and databases, assist in billing and coding of procedures, may be involved with coordinating with other professionals involved in related patient activities (e.g., imaging studies, lab work), and may be required to participate in meetings within the section to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided.
Administers and scores a basic battery of standardized neuropsychological tests and measures
Develops and maintains study databases, summarizes data when requested
Attend training conferences offered by the department as well as by outside organizations.
Perform duties at the desired level of competency (i.e., administration and scoring of standardized tests performed with 95% accuracy [minimum expectation])
Review and ensure timeliness, accuracy, and availability and security of information
Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit
Performs other duties as assigned
