MD Anderson Cancer Center Pulmonary Technologist - Pulmonary Laboratory in Houston, Texas

Ideal candidate is required to have a current Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) in Pulmonary Function Testing.

Perform pulmonary function tests and 6 minute walk tests.

Performs Pulmonary Function Testing

Performs spirometry, lung volume, and diffusing capacity testing.

Administers bronchodilator medications as ordered.

Performs testing according to ATS and laboratory standards, ensures testing consistently meets standards for acceptability and reproducibility.

Can recognize and appropriately react to critical values.

Demonstrates ability to compose preliminary interpretive reports and to provide clear and accurate written communications on quality of testing to providers in a

Timely manner.

Maintains technical competencies for each type of testing performed.

Performs Six-Minute Walk Tests

Perform six-minute walk tests according to laboratory standards.

Monitors patient vital signs and oxygen saturation throughout the test.

Demonstrates ability to compose preliminary interpretive reports and to provide clear and accurate written communications on quality of testing to providers in a timely manner.

Calibrates and Maintains Testing Equipment

Performs all routine calibrations on testing equipment, daily or prior to testing as outlined in the procedure manual.

Cleans and disinfects equipment per laboratory standards.

Documents calibrations and instrument maintenance in appropriate log.

Promptly reports equipment failures to supervisor and clearly labels non-functioning/broken equipment.

Other duties as assigned

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of clinical experience in a full service pulmonary function laboratory. With Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, no experience is required. Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) in Pulmonary Function Testing. Any employee hired or rehired after September 1, 2006 must possess required certification.

Salary Range: $59,600 - $74,500 - $89,400
