MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant I -Clinical Cancer Prevention - Research in Houston, Texas

Provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.

The Research Assistant I impacts laboratory research activities by performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The Research Assistant I will also be responsible for providing support in maintaining general laboratory operations.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Lab:

  • Perform the following techniques: Mice colony handling, maintenance, biopsies, genotyping, skin surgery and related tasks.

  • Perform and be trained in one or some of the following techniques: human and mouse tissue culture; immunofluorescence staining and fluorescence microscopy; fluorescent activated cell sorting; basic molecular biology techniques (RNA, DNA and protein) including Western blotting and PCR

  • Maintains accurate and detailed records and experimental data and protocols. Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested by Principal Investigator and senior laboratory members.

  • Assists in day-to-day operations of the laboratory: lab purchasing/inventory, upkeep of laboratory equipment, responsible for lab compliance (including but not limited to Environmental Health and Safety and HIPPA compliance)

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: No experience.

Preferred: Mouse Colony handling.
