MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Neuro Oncology in Houston, Texas
SUMMARY
The Research Assistant II provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Research experiments and projects
Conducts experiments and research projects in scientific fields under the independently or under minimal supervision of faculty, educational or classified research staff following the best practices guidelines.
Discusses goals of each project with supervisor.
Develop a step-by-step written procedure outlining the specific actions required to conduct the experiment before proceeding and projects.
Work with research team to streamline workflow and document samples received.
Ability to quickly and accurately perform routine lab math calculations required to make solutions, media, single cell suspensions, etc
Analyzing data and generating figures in Microsoft Excel or GraphPad Prism.
Operates laboratory apparatus and equipment
Maintains required trainings to operate in the lab.
Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out experiments while maintaining all the safety and precaution measures.
Follow manufacturer's guidelines regarding the handling and maintenance of all lab equipment.
Have working knowledge of equipment operation manuals and procedure manuals whenever necessary.
Order reagents and materials when needed.
Monitor workflow as it pertains to the need for supplies, equipment maintenance, and preparing stock solutions.
Data gathering and analysis
Maintains accurate, detailed records on experimental data and protocols.
Utilizes institutional databases to record and evaluate data in accordance with methods requested.
Communicate results to and understand instructions from principal investigator and colleagues.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred: Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
EXPERIENCE
Required: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
Preferred: Previous experience analyzing data and generating figures in Microsoft Excel or GraphPad Prism. Ability to quickly and accurately perform routine lab math calculations required to make solutions, media, single cell suspensions, etc.
