MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Tissue Culture/Mammalian Cell Culture in Houston, Texas

The Research Assistant II provides technical and coordination skills in carrying out various research projects.

The salary range is: min-$34,400, mid-$43,000 and max-$51,600.


1.Perform experiments that will include basic molecular and biochemical bench-work, cell culturing of mammalian cancer cell-lines and tumor lines, and various assays including but not limited to radioactive killing assays.

2.Perform studies to sequence, clone and modify DNA sequences and peptides associated with immune function

3.Perform cell manipulation procedures such as cell enrichment, cell evaluation and sorting, cell culture, cellular product cryopreservation and cell product thaw/wash.

4.Performs calculations including, but not limited to, TNC, viability, dilutions and cell concentrations.

5.Responsible for aseptic handling of products.

6.Follow procedures and policies implemented by Principal Investigator and adheres to all defined process and documentation requirements. Adhere to institutional and regulatory guidelines when handling, recording, and collecting data and samples on patients enrolled in our clinical studies.

7.Purchasing and stocking laboratory supplies, preparation of media and reagents, optimization of lab protocols, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. This requires the monitoring of work flow and planning as it pertains to the need for supplies, equipment maintenance and stock solutions.

8.Perform duties in accordance with instructed methods under the direction of the principal investigator or designee. This position conducts close work with other technicians, students, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and staff members in scientific protocols currently used. Good communication skills, patience and good working knowledge of equipment and research aims are a necessity.

9.Good reading and comprehension skills are a necessity in understanding scientific articles and journals related to experiments being conducted. Attendance and participation at work related seminars and/or meetings are required.

10.Assist in training new lab members as you become familiar with general lab activities and the lab's research aim.

11.Perform all duties listed and other duties as assigned.


Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.


Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

Preferred: Prior laboratory experience that includes tissue culture/mammalian cell culture experience.
