MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Intern - Behavioral Science (Dr. Reitzel's lab) in Houston, Texas

The Research Intern position in Dr. Reitzel's lab Tobacco Health Equity and Cancer Prevention Science Laboratory will offer several projects that the intern can choose to be involved with, according to their specific needs and interests. Common intern duties include: attending project meetings as available based on current assignments and funding sources; meeting direct mentor/supervisor or her designees on a regular basis, and attending other meetings as invited; planning, conducting and documenting notes in the workplace to help with assignments given; attending or scheduling meetings as requested with various members of the research team, faculty colleagues, and staff - including informational interviews - that are recommended by the mentor/supervisor; attending team events in the community or workplace as may be possible based on schedule to learn more about everyone's roles and career paths; participating in or leading various assignments relating to development of our community-facing products; reading recommended articles about material design; assisting with material and resource dissemination (including the creation of step-by-step community implementation guides); and entering data onto tracking sheets to denote work completed in a timely manner.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• The intern will expand their understanding of public health research and project implementation through meetings, assignments, etc., inclusive of grant budgeting and planning and the implementation of the work itself.

• The intern will benefit from mentorship of experienced researchers and staff in various facets of research to determine the relevancy of a career in healthcare to his career goals.

• The intern will better understand the groups that we work with the community and how to ensure full consideration of health literary and numeracy in our community-facing materials.

• Learn efficient presentation skills for sharing progress weekly in individual meeting with PI. Learn how to efficiently and accurately present research progress and findings and contribute to the final manuscript drafting.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must hold a bachelor's degree, obtained within 1 year of application.

Applicant must have previous research experience.

POSITION INFORMATION

This position (full-time or part-time) provides a stipend between $28,000 and $36,000.12/20/2024
