SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Investigator is to assist the Principal Investigator with scientific research projects. The Research Investigator functions in a separate and semi-independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. Designs, develops or adapts literature procedures used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. With the PI, determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems. Monitors the use of laboratory equipment and implements safety procedures. Compiles, writes and submits project results to superiors.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Experimental Design Designs and executes the synthesis of organic compounds for therapeutic and imaging applications. Carries out the purification of synthetic products and confirms their structure by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and/or mass spectrometry. May perform additional compound characterization as required. Will work with principal investigator and his team in conducting and designing experiments. With the PI, determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.
Research Management Monitors synthetic organic chemistry operations and ensures a safe chemistry environment. Under the supervision of the PI, will design, develop or adapt literature procedures to obtain desired results.
Data Collection and Analysis Utilize NMR/MR software such as MestreNova or TopSpin to process data. Using Excel and GraphPad, analyze experimental data. Assist the principal investigator with compiling, writing and submitting experimental results for patent, publication, and grant writing purposes.
Data Presentation and Manuscript Preparation Will record all documentation for synthetic procedures and compound analysis for publication, intellectual property documentation, and for compliance. With the assistance of the Principal Investigator, will compile, write and submit project results to superiors.

Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
