MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Nurse - Epidemiology (part-time) in Houston, Texas
This position is part-time, 8 hours / week

The primary purpose of the Research Nurse is to provide assistance with clinical and operational management of research protocols. The scope of this position is defined by the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas and requires adherence to the policies and procedures of the institution.
Protocol Management :
Ensures protocol adherence and data quality, including scheduling tests or therapy, contracting out-patients for follow-up and reviewing or revising care plans.
Acts as a liaison with sponsor institutions and pharmaceutical companies coordinating research studies. Collaborates with the physician and/or protocol sponsor regarding protocol design, implementation and evaluation.
Effectively conducts assigned operations of research protocols.
Data Management :
Enters information on patient chart, PDMS and research forms, or other designated computer data base as required by the protocol and regulatory agencies. Assists in collection of source documentation.
Reviews new patient records and screens patients for eligibility for participation in protocol.
Assists with the acquisition of specimens. Maintains specimen tracking system. Ships specimens as needed to collaborators. Assists in organization and statistical analysis of data resulting from a clinical research study and the preparation of manuscript and presentations.
Assists the physician in protocol amendments, management, generation of reports, can participate in utilizing computer statistical/data management packages for data quality management.
Clinical Practice :
Counsels patients and families and screens patients for questions they are hesitant to ask, and for the early detection of medical problems.
Performs Digital Rectal Anal Exams and discusses findings with participants.
Refers patients for appropriate follow-up care.
Monitors for patient research visits and research follow-up.
Assists the principal investigator with coordination with other clinical sites.
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
One year of registered nursing experience.
Prior Research Nurse and/or Oncology experience.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
