MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Project Manager, Community or Clinical Research in Houston, Texas

The Research Project Manager under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Scherezade K Mama, DrPH) or other high-level staff, oversees all aspects of ongoing and prospective research projects - including (but not limited to) project, protocol, personnel, and grant management. Provides on-site support to the Principal Investigator and research team as it relates to research projects. Impacts ongoing research in the department of Health Disparities Research.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in the community or clinical research management.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Project Management - Manages all operational and technical aspects of multiple research projects in the department of Health Disparities Research with a focus on improving physical activity and quality of life in medically underserved and underrepresented populations. Ensures successful project planning, implementation, and closure. Works closely with the Principal Investigator to establish and maintain research project timelines to support the long- and short-range goals associated with research activities and coordinates staff to ensure research goals are met. Develops standardized procedures to be utilized across research projects. Assists with the development and management of study databases to ensure data quality.

Protocol Management - Develops study protocols for regulatory approval. Oversees the submission and revision of regulatory documents to maintain good standing with the regulatory board. Maintains quality control in intervention delivery and data collection. Conducts internal audits of protocols.

Personnel Management - Manages team personnel issues, including (but not limited to) staff supervision and training, recruitment of new staff, assistance with the hiring process, completion of performance evaluations, and resolving of workflow issues. Makes recommendations to the Principal Investigator for the hiring, promotion, and termination of study staff. Ensures that study staff are current on all necessary training and certifications. Manages staff schedules and aligns staff with project needs. Works with study staff to establish and meet both individual- and team-based goals.

Grant Management - Oversees budgets, financial transactions, distribution of effort, and other project resources. Assists with and/or completes all aspects of grant proposals and progress reports for submission to funding agencies. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, writes abstracts, reports, grant, and/or manuscript sections. Identifies internal and external funding opportunities to enhance research portfolio. Organizes scientific planning meetings with collaborators/contributors to draft study aims and methods.

Other Duties - Oversees completion of administrative requirements for staff. Serves as a liaison for community-based collaborators. Oversees community outreach activities and fosters relationships with community partners. Presents findings of research projects to professional groups.

Position requires in-person attendance and often requires attending meetings and research related activities in the community. May involve travel to research sites in Greater Houston and/or the Northeast Texas region.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in public health or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Six years experience in scientific or experimental research to include two years as a project manager. With preferred degree, four years scientific or experimental research experience to include one year as a project manager.

Preferred: Experience in the community or clinical research management.
