MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Scientist, Animal Models in Houston, Texas

The Research Scientist will apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise and carry out cancer biology-based research projects focused on discovery and development of novel and innovative therapies for cancer. Perform experiments involving molecular biology and cell biology techniques as well as mouse models of cancer. Responsible for specific activities related to discovery and validation of cancer-specific biomarkers and therapeutics targets. And for completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by principal investigator.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Design, Planning, Coordination & Evaluation

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and participates in experimental research related to biomarker and therapeutic target discovery

  • Design, coordinate, and execute translational research projects to advance drug-conjugate discovery programs for the treatment of cancer.

  • Utilize appropriate laboratory models to evaluate scientific questions including cell lines and relevant animal models of cancer.

  • Apply and execute cell and molecular biology techniques (e.g. cell titer glo, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, western blotting, PCR and immunohistochemistry) to deliver impactful data for target validation and drug optimization efforts.

  • Formulate specific goals and objectives to be obtained; evaluate, interpret and integrate research data; develop, troubleshoot and refine techniques and approaches to meet scientific and research challenges.

  • Lead, monitor, and review activity and milestone accomplishments; work directly with other team members to achieve research goals and aims.

  • Maintain an organized and detailed record of all experiments; present findings and research to multidisciplinary project teams; develop research protocols.

  • Supervise lab personnel in their lab procedures, interpretation of results, and trouble shooting.

  • Plays a collaborative role and interacts with, and provides input to investigators in the McCombs Institute and Moon Shots programs in a timely and interactive fashion.

  • Communicates effectively with supervisor, collaborators, and co-workers on scientific and other challenging issues pertaining to the work.

  • Other duties as needed.

EDUCATION: Required: Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred:PhD (Academic) in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred Experience in experimental or scientific work (can include graduate work), including cancer cell and animal model experience.
