MD Anderson Cancer Center Safety Specialist in Houston, Texas

Ideal candidate will have safety specialist with experience:

  • reviewing Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) rDNA protocols and or hazardous chemicals

  • shipping hazardous materials

  • conducting laboratory inspections

  • bachelor's degree

  • would prefer an ASP, RBP, CSP, CIH or CBSP

Recognize, Evaluate, and Mitigate Hazards - Participates in the management and process flow of various Laboratory Safety programs (laboratory audits, lab moves, safety seal, etc.). Assists in the review and monitoring of programs for effectiveness and efficiency. - Responds to internal institutional incidents such as hazardous chemical/biological spills. -Analyzes monthly purchases of hazardous agents and resolves any identified risks.

Compliance - Assists in maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental compliance guidelines and regulations. Provides regulatory interpretations, technical assistance, and recommendations related to laboratory safety programs. - Provides training to safety technicians and customers on laboratory safety program management operations, regulations and requirements to maintain compliance. - Conducts data analysis for hazardous chemical inventory compliance for the Zayed Building and supplies inventory reports to stakeholders as requested. -Conducts Hazardous Agents protocols in support of IBC and offers recommendations for safe handling, storage, and disposal.

Program Support and Implementation - Develops, reviews and disseminates documentation relating to Laboratory Safety programs and processes. - Investigates laboratory safety inspection metrics and delivers statistical reports as requested. - Conducts and revises Laboratory Safety and Hazardous Communication program training. -Instructs students on IATA and DOT hazardous materials shipping regulations. Provides technical expertise and shipping services to customers as requested. -Develops personalized shipping protocols and methodologies for clinical trials. -Manages the Safety Zone producing new safety fliers and updating on a quarterly basis. - Other duties as assigned.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied or Basic Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Environmental Science or related field. Class A, B or C valid Texas driver's license depending on the type and weight of vehicle to be operated and number of passengers to be carried and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles.

Salary Range: $45,800 - $78,500 - $111,200
