MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Communications Specialist in Houston, Texas

The Senior Communications Specialist - Internal Communications will develop, implement, manage and support projects for institutional communications, including facilities and police-related communications through news writing, reporting, and editing; communications consulting services, strategic planning and logistics. This position will support our Facilities Master Framework -- as a part of our Strategy, as well as support institutional emergency communications.


Communications Program Strategies and Consulting

  • Successfully develops, manages, measures and consults on internal communications projects for emergency and institutional security awareness communications, including broad coverage of our facilities and police-related messaging.

  • Consults, develops, implements and manages communications strategies, plans and products to advance the goals and activities in Facilities Management (including the Facilities Master Framework and related projects) and in UT Police.

  • The role includes collaboration with leadership from Facilities and UT Police, client groups from related areas, as well as Strategic Communications and Institutional Affairs team members, including designers/printers to create print, online and broadcast materials.

  • Collaborates with Internal Communications team to write, edit and update content on Inside MD Anderson.

Writing and Editing

  • Clear, consistent writing and editing in all work product. Command of Associated Press style, as well as MD Anderson style.

  • Regular contributions to Inside MD Anderson and to our programs and services through articles, memos, presentations, videos, scripts, slides, fliers or other materials .



Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.


Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

With preferred degree, two years of required experience.

Preferred: Experience in journalism or internal communications.

Skills Assessment

Required: Must pass online pre-employment grammar skills test and writing assessment as required and administered by Human Resources.
